The global sports betting market was valued at over $150 billion in 2019, and is projected to reach over $250 billion by the end of 2023. The growth in this market is propelled by the rapid legalization of sports betting and the increased demand for mobile apps. Despite this growth, sports betting has remained a largely independent activity, one that is intimidating to new users due to the large sums of money on the line and high amount of requisite knowledge required to make informed bets. In response, our team has developed Penny, a small-sum betting app with an emphasis on a social, low stakes experience, universal daily bets, and an approachable user interface. We are a team of WashU undergraduate students with backgrounds in economics, finance, and psychology. We are seeking out mentors with knowledge in the fields of betting, gambling and sports analytics as well as an expert in the realm of gambling litigation.
