Habla Conmigo

Roughly 3.8 million students in the US today are native Spanish speaks who are not considered proficient in English. They make up the majority of the cohort known as English language learners – the lowest performing and fastest growing cohort in American schools today. However, a child’s language learning begins before schooling, with language abilities in kindergarten providing one of the earliest predictors of success. This poses a unique challenge to children coming from homes where English is not the predominant language. In order to address this, I propose my online platform Habla Conmigo. Using relevant vocabulary in English and Spanish, the app features a range of stories, rhymes, and songs, accelerating language learning abilities. This is unique from other language learning apps that cater to young children because it is made specifically with bilingual children in mind – something no other app on the market currently does.
