Fresh Farm
St. Louis is a hub for agriculture and technology. Unfortunately access to that technology tends to be relegated to large-scale commercial agriculture. I think the disconnect between plant science and local communities is part of the reason the city suffers from such vast food disparity issues. I would like to establish a “living laboratory” in the city where we put plant breeding in the hands of local farmers, citizens, and chefs. We focus primarily on plant breeding for urban farmers and chefs. We will be a network of scientists, chefs, urban farmers, and community partners doing participatory science to improve food access and equity.
